Larry Hite

Larry Bailey Hite, 67, of Allen, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024, at Pikeville Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 7, 1957, in Salem, Ohio, a son of the late Gordon and Gracie Hite.

He was a retired welder at R&S Body Shop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his partner, Deborah Gibson; and his brother-in-law, Tom Boosz.

Larry is survived by one daughter, Kristi Malone (Ray); two sisters, Patricia Andres (Steve) and Sherri Boosz, both of Salem, Ohio; one grandchild, Leighanna Merritt; and a bonus daughter, Leann Gibson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Hall Funeral Home chapel, Martin, with Roger Blackburn officiating. Burial followed at Gethsemane Gardens, Prestonsburg.

Kamilla Hopkins

Kamilla Hopkins, one year old infant daughter of Dylan Hopkins and Kayla Swiney, of Long Fork, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at UK Children’s Hospital.

She was preceded in death by one uncle, Aaron Hopkins.

She was born in Lexington, Aug. 2, 2023.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Bailey Stanley, Slayder Swiney and Axl Hopkins; one sister, Kimberly Swiney; maternal grandfather, Burnis Swiney; paternal grandparents, Ricky and Angela Hopkins; one aunt, Savannah Swiney; one uncle, Daniel Hopkins; and a special friend who was like a second mother to Kamilla, Brandi Peach.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 22, 2024, at Hall & Jones Funeral Home chapel with Church of Christ Ministers officiating. Burial will follow at Swiney Cemetery in Elkhorn City.

Visitation will be held Wednesday night, Aug. 21, at the funeral home, with services beginning at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hall & Jones Funeral Home for funeral expenses.

“Jerri” Osborne

Geraldine “Jerri” Osborne, 77, of Virgie, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2024, at Pikeville Medical Center.

She was born at Johns Creek, Oct. 11, 1946.

Jerri was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Osborne; her parents, Charles and Imal Morley; her uncle, Archie Howard; her aunts, Sarah Ann and Maxie Howard; and her brothers, Dudley and Charles Sidney Morley.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Doggett, of Twin Falls, Idaho; brother, Michael Morley and sister-in-law, Madonna Morley, of Meta; sister-in-law, Linda Morley, of Johns Creek; sister-in-law, Melissa Morley, of Dry Branch; daughter, Stephanie Osborne, of Virgie; son, Josh Osborne and daughter-in-law, Toni Osborne, of Nashville, Tenn.; and her adored granddaughter, Indiana Osborne.

“Jerri” lived a life marked by dedication to the Church of Christ, her passion for education and her love for painting and travel.

She was a member of the Shelby Valley Church of Christ and had been a Church of Christ member since her baptism at age 12. Her faith was a huge cornerstone of her life, providing strength and comfort to her and others through the years.

“Jerri” was a proud student of Johns Creek High School, and continued her education at Pikeville College, Berea University and the University of Kentucky. She spent the majority of her life nurturing young minds as a school teacher until her retirement. Her impact on her students was profound and lasting, and she took such joy in meeting former students through the years.

Known for her smile and outgoing personality, “Jerri” loved talking with anyone, painting and traveling to new places. Above all, she cherished her role as “GG” to her granddaughter, Indiana “Indy” Osborne, probably the title she wore the proudest in her life.

Her warmth, spirit and legacy will be remembered by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Shelby Valley Church of Christ. Burial followed at Osborne Family Cemetery, Anderson Fork of Indian Creek, Virgie.

Connie Shepherd

Connie Louise Shepherd, 70, of Prestonsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Elkhorn City, Sept. 13, 1953, daughter of the late Con and Mae Bartley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Denver Bartley, Dallas Bartley and Dennis Bartley; and an infant sister, Rebel Bartley.

Connie was a graduate of Mayo Vocational School, Prestonsburg Community College, and Morehead State University. She retired from the Carl D. Perkins Rehabilitation Center in Thelma as an Instructor of Cosmetology and Business where she molded and touched the lives of many students. Additionally, she was well-known in the community as the former owner and operator of the Red Carpet Hair Salon, Connie’s Beauty Salon, and Uni-Styles Unlimited. Her passion was to make others feel better about themselves. Many of her clients and students became a significant part of her family throughout the years.

Connie was a talented cook and being a country girl at heart, she cherished her time raising gardens and putting away fresh fruit, vegetables, and canned goods. She had a passion for feeding people and loved nothing more than to provide meals to those she loved and to those in need. She was a devoted daughter to her parents, and considered her role as a mother to be her most profound accomplishment. In fact, she prided herself as being a mother to many of her son's friends. Connie was a faithful Christian, and her faith sustained her during life’s challenges. She was a member of Fitzpatrick Baptist Church and had a great love for the people of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.

Connie is survived by her husband of 47 years, Malcolm Trimble “Tim” Shepherd; her sons, Timothy Matthew Shepherd (Kimberly Prater), of Prestonsburg, Jonathan Conrad Shepherd (Andrew Harvey), of Prospect, and her chosen son, Steve Reynolds, of Prestonsburg; her two sister, Olive Faye Kerr, of Lick Creek, and Betty Jane Lay (Doug), of Pikeville; and many nephews, nieces, friends and loved ones; all of whom will cherish her memory.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024, at the Hall Funeral Home chapel. She was laid to rest at the Gethsemane Gardens in Prestonsburg following the service.

Connie’s life was one of success and her legacy is now a treasure. As her favorite scripture reads, “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

“Granny” Stewart

Patricia Stewart, 82, was born on Aug. 21, 1941, to the late Issac and Dorothy Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. She lived in the Christian Faith for 70 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edwin Sterling Stewart; one daughter, Ramona Stewart; two sons, Terry Smith and Raymond Stewart; two granddaughters, Roxie Sowards, and Savannah Stewart; two great-grandsons, Chadwick Kiser and Brayden Stewart; one great-granddaughter, Renee Calloway; and one great-great-grandchild, infant Adams.

Patricia is survived by two daughters, Lisa Elswick (Dewayne), of Virgie, and Rosetta Stewart, of South Carolina; two very special people she claimed as her own, Rheda and Jason Potter, of Virgie; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of many other family and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 19, 2024, at the Bethel Freewill Baptist Church with Ronnie Paul Mullins, Blake Miller and Randy Newsome officiating. Burial followed at Annie E. Young Cemetery, Shelbiana.
